Project Spotlight: Lake Norman Model Home

Our highlight this time around features a versatile model home designed for the 55+ set, and located by Lake Norman in the Charlotte area of North Carolina. The home itself provided single-family, one-level living but with a bonus suite upstairs that could be purposed for in-laws, guests, or a personal retreat. The casual design throughout conveyed a tranquil feel, with an intent of providing inhabitants with a contemporary country lake house vibe.

As lifestyle experts we sought to showcase and merchandise for a wide breadth of potential buyers with an array of tastes and interests. Known for its fishing, we used Lake Norman’s famous hallmark within the rooms without being conspicuous while appealing to current trends, and displayed other items relating to travel, the outdoors, and cook-outs with friends and family. Our goal was for potential homeowners to see, “I could live here. This is home.”

In the main photo above, we used a main color scheme of terracotta and aqua, playing the colors off of each other for a fresh, exciting look. We also used a natural grass cloth on the ceiling in the dining room to define the area in the otherwise open expanse of space. Throughout the rest of the home, we added complementary and unique accessories to really set off the colors and individual rooms, including fur-lined pillows in the master bedroom and wood-inspired laundry room wallpaper—replete with real oars bound with rope hung on the walls—as accent pieces.
